Sound Inventors Residential 2007

Do you teach music to young people? Does your organisation work with young musicians? Are your children interested in composing? If you know young people between 12 and 18 who are enthusiastic about composing music, Sound Inventors Residential is for them. Whether they have already written music or have never written anything previously but would be interested in doing so, we would encourage them to book their places at spnm’s week-long residential composition course. We would welcome those who have already attended a Sound Inventors before and those for whom this would be the first time. Sound Inventors is an award-winning programme designed to inspire young people and equip them with the skills to create and write down music. Projects led by leading UK composers and musicians have taken place over the past five years in places as far apart as Truro and Inverness. So far 1000 people have taken part.

This summer we will bring together over 60 young people for a week. Over five days participants will: • have composition sessions with leading composers and musicians • write their own piece of music for an ensemble of professional players • have a CD copy of the composed piece recorded at the end of the week • have copies of Alasdair Nicolson's Composition Kits to take home • participate in other group musical activities and get a chance to perform • meet lots of other young composers • take part in lots of non-musical events

What previous participants have said:

“The residential is unique and inspiring."

"Awesome!”

“I had so much fun on the residential last summer. "

"I met some wonderful people, there was so much to do and I was never bored."

"As well as all the music and composing, there was also lots of time to socialise and do other activities that were put on for us.”
