APRIL 2009 Fortrose Project. Three musicians (Gabriella dall'Olio [harp], Alison Wells [mezzosoprano] and Lis Dooner [flutes] will work with Alasdair Nicolson to create new pieces for voice and instruments. The project will take Gaelic poetry of Highland Scotland as its starting point and will lead to a concert in St Andrew's Church, Fortrose. As part of the residency, the team will deliver a Bar One and Beyond workshop for Highland Region.
JANUARY 2009 Alasdair Nicolson worked with Manchester Camerata and Staffordshire Music Project on a residential weekend at Ingestre Hall, Staffordshire. 40 young people took part and created new pieces for a quartet of musicians over the course of the weekend.
JULY/AUGUST 2008 Twittering Machine Project. Alasdair Nicolson and Sound Inventor musicians worked with young people for a week in collaboration with the Edinburgh International Festival to create new pieces. These pieces were recorded and performed by the Sound Inventor Musicians as part of the EIF in the Palm House of the Royal Botanic Gardens. JULY 2007 Alasdair Nicolson led a week-long project with LSO musicians at LSO St Lukes using the Composition Kits and resulting in a performance of new works by young people from Hackney Schools.
JUNE 2007 Alasdair Nicolson tours the Outer Hebrides with members of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra creating music with young people from local schools for violin and cello.
MAY 2007 Alasdair Nicolson gives a workshop at the Lincoln Center, New York for education staff from the New York Philharmonic, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, the Orchestra of St Luke's and Carnegie Hall.
APRIL 2007 A collaboration with the Ruskin Ensemble and the Tunbridge Wells Festival resulting in new compositions by pupils from Tunbridge Wells schools. The day-long workshops used methods from the composition kits to create new music in very intensive sessions.
