"At last, composition that made sense!"

TO DATE

Between March 2002 and December 2005, 40+ compositional projects for young people and adults took place across the UK. Sound Inventors was delivered in collaboration with spnm and won the 2003 Royal Philharmonic Society Awards category for Music Education. Over 1000 young composers and 100 adults participated in daytime or residential projects.

SOUND INVENTOR PROJECTS directors Alasdair Nicolson and Vincent O’Connell (together with spnm’s then Executive Director Gill Graham) devised this approach to teaching composition and creative music making. As Artistic Director, Nicolson created two books on composition (The Composition Kits) and O’Connell, as Project Consultant, devised the Project Manual an invaluable resource in this area of work.

THE FUTURE

SOUND INVENTOR PROJECTS now presents an extended portfolio of projects and resources. These build upon familiar SOUND INVENTORS territory, at the same time updating and adding new activities and materials and broadening their application.
